Two Little Monkeys Window Painting

Earlier this week I was invited down to paint the windows at Two Little Monkeys, a children's consignment shop in my neighborhood by the owner, Sarah.  Sarah buys & sells  gently used kid's clothes, baby swings, strollers, baby carriers, bikes, trikes...you name it, she sells it.  (And at incredibly reasonable prices I might add.)

The store front has 8 windows at is about 20' long.

I used Sarah's existing monkey characters but gave them both the signature cheesy grin that you'll find on all of my own characters.  The monkeys are having a water fight with the hose to beat this oppressive July heat here in Boston.  (Though as I type this it's a dreamy 70 degrees outside and you could even get away with wearing a hoodie.  Eep!)

I also added the shop's logo right on the center glass at eye level for greater visibility for passersby.  (I love that word.)

Contact me if you have a window that could use some love.  The designs are waterproof but also easily removed.  Perfect if you're renting or if you just have commitment issues.

Enjoy the rest of your Summer!!

The Apple Pickin'-est Guys Around

Apple picking is a sure sign of better things to come.  Things like sweaters and leggings and tights and boots and scarves!  I love dressing for fall ALMOST as much as I love punkin flavored beverages and punkin flavored foods.  Almost.

I wish I could give Fall a big squeeze to show it how much I missed it.  Like this guy with his apple.

Happy Thursday and Happy Fall!!!
(nothing personal Summer but I'm so over you)

A little more bacon-y, please.

I feel like I've come to a good place in life when people know to come to me if they need something to look "more bacon-y".  That was the request for this inexpensive bacon costume bought online by Karen- it just didn't look bacon-y enough so she asked me to fix it.
And it's a good thing because Maya and her pet sheep would have looked ridiculous in that store-bought bacon costume in the annual 4-H costume parade at the Marshfield Fair.  That was a close one!

p.s. please note Maya's custom bacon bow...I think there's a Lady Gaga costume in her future.

Dog Days of Summer Window Painting

Welp, it's here again, the dog days of Summer are upon us.  Those long hot (and in New England HUMID) days towards the end of Summer characterized by frizzy hair, sweaty buns and bad attitudes.  When people start longing for Fall and the cool nights she brings.

There are a couple things you can do about this type of weather:  you can complain incessantly about how hot it is, much to the chagrin of your co-workers, I'm sure or you can do like this guy and shamelessly hog up the kiddie pool.

This window painting is a remake of a June 2010 window painting I did- reduce, reuse, recycle!

Enjoy the rest of your Summer!!

Happy Critters Custom Playground Painting

This custom 24"x36" painting was made just for Vivian who turned 2 last weekend to bring more color to her "not too pinky-girly" nursery and came to me my favorite way, through word of mouth advertising.

Included in the painting are Vivan's favorite stuffed animals, herself and of course, a girl's best friend, her dog, Milo.

Vivan wasn't home to see the painting in person when I dropped it off but luckily her Mom shot me this adorable play-by-play of when she first saw it:
"I wanted to let you know about Vivian's reaction when she first saw your painting.  She saw it as soon as she walked into her room yesterday afternoon, and did a total double-take.  Then she pointed at Dolly in the picture and said her name, and went to grab the actual Dolly from her toy bin so she could hold her just like she is in the picture.  Then she pointed at each of her "friends" in the picture and named them, and also pointed out Milo.  I asked her if she liked the picture, and she said, "Yesssss!""

Reactions like that make this job even sweeter, if that's possible.

And, as if that weren't enough, piggy-backed on top of all that sweetness was this painting also done for Vivian commissioned by the original word-of-mouth advertiser, the customer I painted Ryan's Safari for.
Little V is a second generation Chinese-American, this is her birth animal, the tiger and her name written in Chinese characters.  It was painted to coordinate-with but not necessarily match the playground painting in order to keep the room from looking too "theme-y" (which is definitely a word) and topped off with a distressed white frame.

Thanks for stopping by and please don't hesitate to contact me with questions if you'd like your own custom nursery artwork!

...don't be a stranger, ya'hear?

Holme's Farm Mobile Farm Stand

Long time no talk, huh?  If you've wondered where I've been for most of June, the short answer is Manomet.  The long answer is that I've been spending every free moment I have down in Manomet, MA (just South of Plymouth) transforming this gigantic white trailer into a mobile barn (complete with a cow, pig and full vegetable garden) for the wonderful women of Holmes Farm's brand new mobile farm stand.
This monsterous trailer needed to be sanded, primed, painted, resanded, repainted, drawn on, painted on and sealed all by hand and all during a particularly rainy June while all-the-while being parked outside in the elements. It was definitely a labor of love and I couldn't have done it without the help I got from Jeremy, Liz and Jennifer.  Thank you guys so much!!

There are 2 ways to see the trailer in action- you can either go directly to Holmes Farm on Saturdays and support their farm stand or catch them at the Plymouth Farmer's Market every Thursday at Plymouth Plantation.

I can't believe I'm (almost) done!  I'm as happy as a pig in...uh, mud.

Riverdog Doggy Daycare: Window Painting

Liz and I painted the window over at Riverdog Doggy Daycare in Union Square last week.

Below is what the window looked like before....wahhhh-wahhhhh.
(That's the sound of something sad and lackluster.)

We did a big Bernese Mountain Dog and dozens of little pink flowers to celebrate the arrival of Spring.

And we also had to pay homage to Riverdog's River-Cat, Dennis, the friendliest cat I've ever met and the shop's unofficial mascot.  Dennis alone is reason enough to stop by the shop for a visit.

Go check it out if you're in the neighborhood and tell 'em Mandee sent you!

Delicious Vegetarian Chicken Recipe

This is by far the best vegetarian chicken I've ever tasted.

I made this small chicken army for Easter but these
would also be lovely for a farm themed birthday, a
Spring celebration or just cause they're adorable.

Recipe from Martha Stewart.
